Meal Planning

Meal planning for families.

The goals of our meal planning are to nourish our bodies with as many ingredients sourced from our farm or from our neighbors as possible. Any ingredients that are out sourced come from the highest quality possible, while keeping affordability in mind.

Categories to End Decision Fatigue

These categories have multiple functions in my meal planning. First they help eliminate decision fatigue. Nothing is more exhausting than constantly coming up with a brand new menu plan. As I have gone throughout my life as a new wife and young mama I tried new recipes and some stuck. The keepers make the menu plan. There will always be room in my kitchen for new recipes, but these are the classic keepers!

The second reason I chose to make categories for my menu plan is simply because life on the farm and in the garden come in waves of feast and famine. During the waves of feast it is my job to preserve the harvest in all the ways so during the famine we don't have to use outside sources. The most common statement that I receive as a gardener is, "I don't garden because I can't eat that many (fill in said fruit/veg) and it just goes to waste. It's not worth my time." This waste can be reduced if not eliminated if we have a plan! A word of warning about our "plan", life on the farm and in the garden is not predictable. Some years the tomatoes produce double and the next year might be crop failure.

I don't know if you need to hear this too, but I'm leaving this note here to remind myself that despite my best effort and all my planning...it has never gone perfectly according to plans and we are okay and always have been. God is so so good!
